read my dirty opinions about toys, comics, movies, tv, video games and anything else that is suffocating our brains today! You know, the stuff that matters!

STAN LEE IS IN DA HOUSE!

This 80-year old white man is going to create an "urban superhero" for young black kids who idolize men like the one on the right...in his own immortal words: "'Nuff said" the better...

WIZARD #165: THE VPG REVIEW

Wizard always reviews comics and other pop culture, so let's review the newest issue of Wizard shall we!

SUPERMAN RETURNS PHOTOS - I guess they had to run these for the 3 kids that haven't seen them yet because their mom won't let them go online.

DEATH TO THE JLA/HOUSE OF M - Now after reading these pieces I think I finally understand the storylines and difference between DC and Marvel's big crossover series - DC's will be good and Marvel's will suck. This is where Bendis gets his bald head handed to him by young whippersnapper Geoff Johns.

TURNER'S PROTEGES - It's starting to look baltantly obvious that Wizard is trying to give both of their biggest advertisers exactly 50/50 split in this issue while peppering in stuff like Michael Turner's copycat posse.

FANTASTIC FOUR SET REPORT - That is funny that Wizard reporter Richard Ho is standing behind that Vancouver personality who used to host those Friday Night Videos...forgot his name, and Ho is looking a bit out of place in that shot.

JIM LEE SKETCHBOOK - more doodles by Jim Lee - now I really am sick of seeing him draw Batman, I want to see him draw like a 12-issue series of SWAMP THING or ARCHIE.

JOSS WHEDON INTERVIEW - I really like ASTONISHING X-MEN but I still cannot stand Buffy or Angel. He cops to doing another 12 issues of Astonishing and some kind of mini series based on S.W.O.R.D. - the E.T. version of S.H.I.E.L.D.

ALEX ROSS' JUSTICE #1 - ooh looks sweet, hope it reads better than some of the old school crap he's been spilling out...but it does look like its going to be a hardcore version fo the Superfriends against the Legion of Doom - an Ultimate-version of CHALLENGE OF THE SUPERFRIENDS! I'm in!

WILDSIDERZ - Sounds good to me, looking forward to this bad boy for sure. Can J. Scott Campbell pull it off? Danger Girl was sold on his art and T&A action - if you read it again now there is nothing else there so will there be here?

and then it just HITS you in the face:
ROB LIEFELD TEACHES YOU TO DRAW!!!!
Man, I never thought I'd see the day when this happens...amazing, you can see him teach you to draw Robin here...oh the humanity!

BEFORE HE WAS PRIME

If you know who Orion Pax is either you are the biggest nerd in town or me! Optimus Prime was once a young Autobot named Orion Pax - O.P. see the initials - clever isn't it. E-Hobby Japan has the goods and TNI has the English translation!

MORPHEUS IS DEAD!

And this time we mean the CHARACTER not the actor. In a progressive move in tying in online with actual storylines, the MATRIX ONLINE game has actually killed the character of Morpheus - so it seems the actual story from the films does continue in the game which is a first.

How long he will stay dead, even Larry Fishburne doesn't know -- but if you are a fan then this is the place to be!

BAD-EYE HARRIS AND THE KING!

OK I passed on this too before - another DC Paradox Press graphic novel book gets turned into a movie...Road to Perdition lah lah lah...ok then I decided to watch the trailer for A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and....it looks pretty cool, so have a look here. Feels kind of like the male version of THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT which is Geena Davis' best movie.

And if you dont like looking at Aragorn or a Bryan Hitch-version of Ed Harris, I'm sure JENNIFER CONNELY's new movie DARK WATER will be easy on your eyes here.

HEAVY BREATHING AT THE B.O. AND THE B.K.!

Vader knows all - courtesy of the BK Lounge - he really can read your mind, I played Sith Sense, 5 times and he guessed it each time...yes I do have nothing else to do!

In other SW news, it seems EP3 tied Spider-Man 2 to the time it took to get to $200 million...seeing as REVENGE OF THE SITH is PG-13 and wouldn't appeal to the whole family that is pretty good news. But lets see how EP3 does this weekend. The time to beat to $300 million is SHREK 2 which did it in 18 days, if it can beat Shrek 2 again to $400 million in 43 days that would be amazing!

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE!

Slash is here courtesy of McFarlane! Heroin needles sold seperately, free in Canada.

IT'S FANTASTIC!

Never thought I'd say that the Invisible Woman is the one I want to see the most of...and even though everyone likes THE THING, I think that in the movie Chris Evans will steal the show as Johnny Storm. Just hope kids around America don't douse themselves with lighter fluid afterwards.

Individual character posters here and the internation trailer is here.

STAR WARS #1 WORTH $6000+

Here is a a scan from the newest issue of COMIC'S BUYERS GUIDE at Marvel's STAR WARS comics worth! It seems the holy grail of Star Wars comics is the 35 cents issue which has a CGC cost on ebay at $6,552. amazingly unslabbed its only $600 in near mint. Click the image to see the whole comparison.

BAY NO TRANSFORMERS FAN!

A sure sign that a TRANSFORMERS live-action movie is a bad idea is when the director says he is not a fan. Didn't Hollywood learn their lesson with Batman, Dick Tracy, Catwoman, Hulk etc. al. the director must be passionate about it so that everyone is happy about it, with Micheal Bay the most likeliness of this film is it will be a straight adaptation with no fan service. I hope this isnt going to be a missed opportunity.

Bay says it wasn't so much the show that appealed to him, but more the prospect of starting a new family film franchise. "I'm not necessarily a fan of the show, but I love the writer's take on this. I love the whole changing up of the machines. The hook the writers have, I'm really into. I've always wanted to do kind of a big family movie, a franchise piece, so that's why I'm interested in it."
But 2 things go against what I just said - I'm looking forward to his THE ISLAND and the second thing is the DAREDEVIL director was a fan and look how crappy that turned out. I hope he learned his lesson for GHOST RIDER. So who knows?

E3 XBOX 360 TRAILERS DIRECT FROM BILL!

With all the Hi-Def talk why watch those second rate quality videos recorded with camcorders at E3 when you can go to the devil yourself and watch all of the enticing Xbox 360 videos nice and clear.

PUTTING THE "F" BACK IN FREEDOM!

If you are a pop culture aficianado and havent seen TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE - slap yourself, nay, slap yourself HARD. Go and buy the UNRATED DVD and watch it - you will not regret it, it looks like a kids movie but DEAR LORD IT IS NOT! And its doing well at DVD just as I thought it would...

E3 OVERLOAD YET? NOT!

More must-see game trailers:

GEARS OF WAR - if this is what the gameplay looks like, which it does, this is going to be a killer app for Xbox 360.

ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS - ooh, never been a Zelda fan but this looks cool!

HULK: ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SUBSISTENCE - is that a real word? Who cares - Snake goes online!

FIRST APPEARANCE OF DRUG-INFLUENCED COMICS

FINALLY! A COMPOSITE SUPERMAN to call my own! The Silver Age has risen again! Really, 'NUff said!

COMIC CREATORS SALARY EXPOSE!

After earlier reports that ALAN MOORE was leaving DC, news has surfaced of what he got paid for optioning V FOR VENDETTA into a movie...and then everyone came out to say what they made. Mark Millar made $3K a script on THE AUTHORITY and Kyle Baker made $3K on the option to his graphic novel (which was great) WHY I HATE SATURN, which could be argued was a prototype for FRIENDS, read more at the Beat...

BUY A NEW SOULFIRE!

This is a new $200 resin statue based on Michael Turner's SOULFIRE comic series - I saw it close up and it truly is amazing! It has to be about 16" tall and the wingspan opens to at least 24" - a great sculpt that brings the usually dreadful Turner artwork to life.

GIANT SIZE X-MEN 3!

DAVE COCKRUM drawing the X-Men again???!! Wow! Check out this cover for (believe it or not) GIANT SIZE X-MEN #3 on sale JUNE 15th.

"In celebration of the 30th anniversary of 1975's Giant-Size X-Men #1 & #2 comes this colossal, 80-page, full-color collection of the X-Men's greatest team-ups... plus an original, eight-page tale of the 'All-New, All-Different X-Men,' as told by Joss Whedon and Neal Adams. Also included in this issue are 1964's Fantastic Four #28 (X-Men and Fantastic Four), 1964's X-Men #9 (X-Men and Avengers), and 1967's X-Men #35 (X-Men and Spider-Man)."

500 TIMES IS THE CHARM!

Everyday must have Star Wars news! Here is Hasbro's 500th Star Wars figure and its the super cool $14.99 DARTH VADER - you remember this scene in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK! Well it was either this scene or the one when he's sitting at the dinner table waiting for Lando to bring him Han and Leia.

PUFFY CLOTHING IN THE US?

One of my fave bands from Japan look to be gaining traction here in the US. Not only is their tour doing well, but the cartoon show is doing well enough to warrant new licensing deals!

KURT RUSSELL = TIM ALLEN???

What to make of SKY HIGH? Sounds like a comedic take on the X-MEN? Well check out the trailer for youself - if the filmakers are comic fans then this might actually be fun in that GALAXY QUEST sort of way. I like what I see in the trailer and LYNDA CARTER and BRUCE CAMPBELL are in it so there must be a nod-and-wink to us fanboys! One can only hope!

EPISODE 3 TO MAKE $9 MILLION IN CHINA

In a country that can buy bootleg copies of EPISODE 3 on DVD for $1.20 it is AMAZING that anyone actually goes to the cinema as these DVD's are available almost anywhere you walk. So the first news that came out of China about the poor audiences for REVENGE OF THE SITH made sense, the country did a complete 180 and are now SELLING OUT each show.

This shows you that China does not have the Midnight Madness culture, and also probably was more curious to see it after seeing that the US spent $50 million to see it on just one-day. Either way its interesting to see and how the MPAA really should relax. The US has just as much piracy, its just not so easy to find and music CD's still sell millions of copies and movies like ROTS still can do $150 million PLUS at the theatre. Greed I tell you...all greed!

NINTENDOGS...NO, REALLY!

Just when you thought you've seen it all - now with your Nintendo DS you can watch over virtual dogs - it could very well be the killer app for that handheld.

Essentially a kind of advanced Tamagotchi, Nintendogs is a dog simulator for your DS. It allows you to choose from a range of different dog breeds and adopt them as your new pet. Why not just buy a dog, I hear you ask? Well they're considerably more expensive for a start, plus you can't keep an actual dog in your pocket… not unless you wish to starve them of oxygen or have big, roomy pockets.

ART ADAMS ON BATMAN!

I see 3 key artists in the comic book world - Jack Kirby, Neal Adams and Art Adams - Art Adams redefined cool in the 80's with his LONGSHOT series and then turning the X-Men on their heads - he is notoriously slow and unambitious hence the reason you don't see any real work from him...but he is out there and with his current DC exclusivity it looks like he will be drawing a Jeph Loeb BATMAN story soon - but knowing Adams he started drawing this a year ago and it will take another year before it comes out...but ah, perfection takes time - as does finding the perfect pork-rind apparently.

KOJIMA INTERVIEW ALERT!

Read it now here!

Is there anymore you can tell us about the storyline or the location for MGS4?

If you see the trailer for MGS4, you see we have the concept of "No place to hide". That's the kind of the message how MGS4 is going to be. That doesn't mean that Snake will no longer hide or the game is no longer a stealth game. It will be a stealth game, however the situation will change because in the past there was a concrete wall of a building or some jungle where Snake could hide. But in the event like in the trailer, when a bomb explodes in a building, he has no place to hide because the environment might move or might fade away getting destroyed. There might be situations where Snake cannot hide so that's why we say "No place to hide".

TAKE COVER G.I. JOE - HERE COMES G.I. TODD

I am very excited about this line - McFarlane Toys - Masters of all things Spawn, are doing a line of MILITARY figures called: McFARLANE'S MILITARY...you could complain about the name but not these figures! Amazing as always and check out the full feature at the Spawn.com site.

SECOND CHOICE ANAKIN UP FOR STAR WARS TV

The Force is strong in this one - meet MATTHEW NEWTON - the kid who lost the role of ANAKIN SKYWALKER to Hayden Christiansen...Why am I telling you this? Well it looks like Young Matthew is in the lead to play some kind of role in George Lucas' new Star Wars TV show.

Although this story mentions he will be playing Anakin, that doesnt seem to jibe with reports that Lucas has said the TV series will take place between EP3 and EP4 with all new characters not from the movie. I just hope this news means they are on the fast track to making the show.

ALAN MOORE KICKS DC TO THE CURB!

Rich Johnston - That crazy reporter bane-of-comic-professionals is back with his column LYING IN THE GUTTERS at CCR and he is spilling the new beans on ALAN MOORE'S new beefwith DC.

To be Alan Moore, who by my account is the single greatest comic book creator of all time, it seems you need to walk your own path, and I don't mean just practice magic but apparently not watch movies (but watching TV is OK.)

STAR WARS WEEKEND 1 NEWS ROUND-UP!

Th ebest thing about the Summer is that everything is about entertainment and pop culture and this weekend will no doubt be the place to get the most news because of all success of Episode 3 there is so much Star Wars news this weekend the Viva Popaganda crew had to report on some of them and will be picking the best stuff throughout the week:

  • How to make a Jedi robe! Let's guess how many Jedi there will be out this Hallowe'en. MOur favorite Jedi here is KIT FISTO - Even though he was taken down quickly by Palpatine, he is still our favorite because of his cheeky smile in Episode 2!

HUGE MIDNIGHT SHOWING FOR EP3

$17 million at the midnight showing - my guess is this will be the biggest opening weekend of all time - Boxofficemojo is guessing $124 million - that may be a bit much but I'm sure it will break all records! And its thanks in part to folks like these!

UPDATE: Hollywoodreporter is saying that REVENGE OF THE SITH should beat Shrek 2's $44.8 million - but remember Episode 1 opened at $65 million and Epsiode 2 opened at $80 million - so I think the $100 million mark could be possible!

STAR WARS COMICS WALK THROUGH

Benjamin Ong Pan Kean of Newsarama has written a nice overview of the Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars line...

I can't believe the Marvel series is not considered canon - that will devalue them quite a bit!

EPISODE 3 = AWESOME!

Best Star Wars Ever! I mean it! Absolutely amazing and I hated all of them except for Empire.

Thank you George!

WATCH E3 GAME TRAILERS NOW!

E3 is here of course and there are so many great sources for news but don't miss out on GAMETRAILERS.COM where I saw this video for PS3's KILLZONE - which if it actually plays like that will be the HALO killer. Check out DOA4, MGS4 and so much more!

FRANK GORSHIN DEAD AT 72!

Rest in Piece Frank - you were a class act!
He was Emmy-nominated for his guest starring roll as BELE on the Classic Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" and of course Emmy-nominated for his role as THE RIDDLER on the BATMAN television show.

X3's BEAST HAS BEEN CAST!

Can you believe it - SIDESHOW BOB has been cast as THE BEAST in X-MEN 3. I don't think KELSEY GRAMMAR is exactly hurting for cash and in a way I guess Frasier Caine is the sitcom version of Dr. Hank McCoy, so I guess it works! Except when he's falling off of stages.

FINALLY: PLAYSTATION 3

Now this is a gaming console - ladies and gentlemen: THE PLAYSTATION 3. You can see why the Xbox 360 had to reveal earlier because they must have known they would be decimated by this lovely machine. More pictures here.

And the amazing stats about the PS3 are here...just amazing - this is really the next generation of gaming!

DC SECRET FILES ACTION FIGURES

I don't know what to make of these new DC SECREET FILES: UNMASKED ACTION FIGURES...apparently the whole line can remove their masks to see their true identities...not only is that a weird action feature how can they really do this? It looks like 2 seperate head sculpts that you can remove by yourself. Another excuse to do the JLA? The debate begins now! See them for yourself: BATMAN, SUPERMAN, MARTIAN MANHUNTER, BATGIRL and THE JOKER.

BATMAN PROTECTS MANHATTEN

No matter how many of us fanboys know about the release date of BATMAN BEGINS, these giant signboard in New York City means that either WB is letting the "rest of us" know there is a new Batman movie coming out or they had a few hundred thou left over from the movie.

JLU: BEST DC ANIMATED SERIES EVER!

Forget the US Cartoon Network feed, the Canadians have the goods on JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED!

Airing all the episodes way before their US dates makes Teletoon the channel to watch these days especially if you are a JLU fan, which by judging the last 3 episodes is on its way to becoming the best DC cartoon ever!

HUNTER'S MOON: I don't care to see Hawkgirl out of costume, but with the bad guy Thanagarians (well timed with the new RANN-THANAGAR WAR #1 coming out this week) making an appearance more than made up. What sounded like a "dump on Green Lantern" episode with the pairing of Vixen and Hawkgirl, it turned out to be a great epsiode. What was J'onn thinking? Sending Vixen and Vigilante (who was a great addition) into a space fight? If you can get past that weird pairing and if you dont mind that the Vigilante is in the wrong timeline - then this is a fun and colorful epsiode.

DOUBLE DATE: The Question is becoming my favorite character, and while most of the voice casting decisions on the show are not the best - Jeffrey (Re-Animator and Shraan on ENTERPRISE) Coombs - does an amazing job as the weird and conspiracy-theorizing Question - too bad the recent DC Comics mini-series wasn't like this. Throw in Green Arrow and Black Canary's courtship and a maniacal Huntress into the mix and this is another fun episode.

THE CLASH: I give props to the creative team for NOT including the core 7 in the last batch of episodes - so that when we see Supes and Bats again it's actually fun! For those waiting to see The Big Red Cheese in animated form this is it - an ep that could easily have just been a 22-minuite slugfest was an interesting manipulation game by the bad guys. And WTF??? The bad guy cameo's in this epsiode are really digging deep into the WHO'S WHO back catalogue which make it fun for us old-schoolers and for the new kids watching it. Gold stars to those that know BLACK MASS, CROWBAR, FASTBALL and other members of THE CADRE by name!!!

ULTIMATE NIGHTCLUB BOUNCER?

Buzzscope received some sketches from MARVEL on Mark Bagley's redesign of ULTIMATE IRON FIST and ULTIMATE SHANG-CHI. They will appear in a Wizard issue of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN. This looks much more realistic than the original costumes, if by realistic you mean "Gay New York Nightclub."

ULTIMATE CHINESE FOOD DELIVERY BOY!

And here is the Ultimate version of The Master of Kung Fu! I hope he has some extra spring rolls in that cool belt of his.

BATMAN ELSEWORLDS FIGURES!

It's not very often that print magazines scoop the web these days - but the newst issue of TOYFARE MAGAZINE #95 to be exact - has a bunch of scooperific news pieces and because its a slow news day we thought we'd break a few laws and scan in the one that made us buy this specific issue.

It looks like DC DIRECT is doing very well with figures just based on Superman and Batman, so I guess we'll never get any of the obscure DC characters outside of what Mattel (WTF???) is doing with JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED, which is strange because you'd think that DC would be the ones to do a Secret Society of Super Villains line.

Anyways as you can see from this scan, DCD is going to be doing the BATMAN and BATGIRL from the Elseworlds series from a few years back called THRILLKILLER. What? You never heard of it? Yeah it's odd they decided to do this 0ne before GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT or one of the cooler Elseworld books, but the costume designs by Dan Brereton were pretty cool so I would pitch in that this was a good move as I'd buy them. But still not sure of Batman's lingerie gloves!

Up top you'll see the first sculpts of the CRIMSON MIST Batman - yeah you remember this one when Batman became an actual VAMPIRE - and you thought the 70's were over!

Last year DCD did announce a line of figures based on Mark Millar's RED SON - where Superman landed in Russia instead of America and revealed this Russian-looking Batman, well here is the Superman and Wonder Woman who apparently have been delayed. Its funny because of the three, I think RED SON Sold the best, but it makes the worst action figures. Oh well what are you going to do. TOYFARE #95 has abunch of other stuff I have not seen online so you might want to pick it up - its on newstands now, natch!

SHOULD I CARE ABOUT TOM VS. THE ALIENS?

I really do like Tom Cruise and have seen just about all his films - I loved Jerry Maguire, Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky even Eyes Wide Shut - all great films and great performances by Tom. But this WAR OF THE WORLDS movie is the first time I am totally not interested in seeing a Tom Cruise movie - and I'm a sci-fi fan.

I know Tom and Spielberg did really well with MINORITY REPORT which was another great flick (Well up until the last 10 minutes as usual) but having Tom and Spielberg team on a movie we've already seen re: ID4, Aramageddon, Volcano etc. al. sure they can put their own spin on it but with that little blonde girl in it, and Tom without a gun or a sword it just seems weak.

I am more interested to seee Jonny Depp as Willy Wonka and Michael Bay's The Island than this. But I have this weird feeling ot will be huge - because it is for everyone and this is Tom's first real family movie as he gets older - and Spielberg has his Jurassic Park goggles on for this. We'll see if the FANTASTIC FOUR really needed to move away from this soon!

TAKARA TO MERGE WITH TOMY!

What is going on in Japan - I thought all the money coming in from anime licensing was fuelling their economy - so its big news to hear Transformers daddy TAKARA is planning on merging with Pokemon hothouse TOMY into a $1.7 billion powerhouse but still only making them #4 in Japan. Very interesting news and we'll follow this as it develops.

SHARKS AND LAVA -- OH MY!

I know its for little kids but it SHARK BOY AND LAVA GIRL looks fun! Here is the official poster.

You notice how late, or maybe its normal, that the non super-hype films get their release dates, trailers and posters out? There are a BUNCH of other big movies other than Star Wars, Batman and Fantastic Four coming out but you wouldn't know it from the lack of marketing right now. I know it really only matters 2 weeks before release but it is weird

CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT TEASER!

New teaser poster for the new Wallace and Gromit flick - if you havent seen their animated adventures before, dont be fooled by the simplistic designs - this is top notch stuff so seek out the old stuff before October. And having seen some of the prototypes for McFARLANE TOYS 3" W&G line - I gotta say there will be a frenzy for them for sure! Don't be left behind!

MARVEL MEGA MORPHS: THE COMIC

I always wondered why if Marvel wanted to attract young readers to forget re-doing the classics and make comics about their toys. So here they go about 5 years late but at least they are trying. SEAN McKEEVER unleashes the goods on a new bunch of mini-comics he is writing based on TRANSFORMING MARVEL CHARACTERS!

Ok the Wolverine looks whacked, but that HULK looks badass!

BLOOD ON TV!

That cool BLOOD vampire OVA that game out a few years is back from PRODUCTION I.G. as a TV series. Keep your eyes out on the fansub wire for it. The official Japanese site is up as well!

WILL CYCLOPS BE IN X3?

I can't believe they are even considering doing X3 without CYCLOPS!

Will you play Cyclops in X-Men 3?
It’s very complicated. I want nothing more than to be a part of X-Men 3, especially since they’re probably going into the Dark Phoenix saga, which would include my character a lot, but the schedule might conflict. I hope it all works out. I told them I’d do it for free.
Seeing as X3 is obviously about Dark Phoenix and somehow they are fitting Juggernaut into it (I guess no Hellfire Club) Cyclops better be the more prominent character with Wolverine and Storm - but I think it will be tricky since they have to show off more Nightcrawler and new members Beast and Angel and who knows who else.

To make fans happy they should just do a huge Danger room montage where every X-Man is in it - kind of like how they did Collossus - so that we get the visual delight of seeing the characters but then they buckle down to the core characters to tell the actual story. I thought X2 was a good balance, but when you have people like Halle Berry threatening to not sign on because she has nothing to do - I say sorry Storm, we're going to have you on sick leave for the next one and use a new female X-character.

IT'S "TURN BASED" CLOBBERIN' TIME!

Fox released this new free online game today for FANTASTIC FOUR - I logged in just to get you all this screen shot. If you like turn-based games then this is for you, if you suffer from ADD like me, you might want to pass.

What I would like to see is an interactive history of the Fantastic Four, and not so much of its creators but of the characters - their historic origin, their loves, their losses, the villains, the victories - these characters are the most famous, non-famous ones that everyone should be brought up to speed.
